Because of the rising popularity of the sweatshirt, more and more people are buying them these days. Especially the sweatshirt market online is growing more rapidly than ever before. This is no surprise, because if you’ve ever worn a sweatshirt then you know from your own experience how comfortable and warm they can be. Sweatshirts used to be a heavyweight type of clothing. Originally, they were worn by people who had to perform physical activities outdoors, whether these activities be sports or labor. But nowadays, everybody wants to wear sweatshirts, so they are now manufactured with all sorts of fabrics, that range from thick to thin.
The thicker a sweatshirt is, the more warmth it will give you. But let’s say it’s spring or autumn and you don’t want to be wearing a winter’s sweatshirt? Sweatshirts have gone mainstream in the fashion world a long time ago, so people want to wear them all throughout the year, in every single season. For this reason, sweatshirts can either be lightweight, midweight or heavyweight. There isn’t really anything in between, but categories in between these three aren’t really necessary. In the summer, you can wear lightweights. Midweights are for slightly colder weather. Heavyweights are for extremely cold temperatures.
Because of advances in the way that clothing is produced, a sweatshirt with thin fabric isn’t necessarily of low quality. Lightweight sweatshirts often come without a hood, because even a hood with thin fabric would be too warm in the summer. Lightweights weigh less than 10 ounces. A midweight, on the other hand, will weigh in at around exactly 10 ounces. Midweights can be used for playing sports both inside as well as outside, just so long as temperatures aren’t freezing cold.
If it’s close before or after winter and you want to stay warm when doing outdoor activities, a heavyweight sweatshirt can be a good solution. Heavyweight shirts will keep you warm and mobile at the same time, while jackets usually only keep you warm, but restrict your mobility!
