Fortunately today, there are wide varieties of handicap bathtubs that are specially designed for those who have difficulty. Furthermore, many modern designs have the ability to let the person use the bathtub without additional assistance. The main problem is that as there is such a large choice, people do not know what will be best for them.

Firstly, a very popular bathtub is the ‘walk-in’ type. In essence, it is a very similar bath to what most people use in size, except that it has a special gate that allows the person with mobility issues to move safely into it. As there is a gate opening, it allows the user to step in more safely than cruelly being forced to climb over. In addition, this type of handicap bathtub traditionally contains a seat and handheld shower for ease of use and convenience. Once sat on the seat, the door can be firmly shut and the bather will have a variety of options at their disposal like hydrotherapy and self-drying.

On the other hand, other handicapped bathtubs may be needed for people with more severe limitations. The most favored model is one where instead of gate being manually opened; a door instead will swing outwards so one in a wheelchair can easily travel themselves through. There may also be a special ‘pivot’ system where the person can flex themselves from the wheelchair onto the bathtub chair with ease. Similar to the other tubs, there may be extra features such as hydrotherapy may be included.

Finally, some companies offer the brilliant service of being able to convert a current bath into a specialist handicap bathtub. However, there is the issue of the quality that crops up from time to time; it is better to invest more money if one is looking for an utterly safe option.

There are two main types of handicapped and corner bathtubs that people can decide to buy, and it is merely down to one’s personal opinion over which is more suited to them – it is paramount to purchase the perfect one.
