Have you ever seen pretty pictures of a well lit skihut at night, on a snowy mountain in mid December? It’s what I saw in a magazine a few years ago and it made me curious enough that I wanted to try out a skiing trip for the first time in my life. That’s exactly what I did a few years ago and I haven’t looked back since. I recommend it to everybody, because it’s so much fun! You will need a very good skiing jacket to protect you from the cold, so it’s highly recommend that you read a few ski jacket reviews to increase the odds of buying a good one. Ofcourse, it also helps to have a basic understanding of ski jacket features.

One of the things that you have to keep in mind when you are going to buy a ski jacket, is to check if it was manufactured with the intention of keeping cold wind out. Not only does it need to keep air outside, it also needs to keep cold water outside. A jacket like the Arc’teryx Alpha SV women’s ski jacket can do this just fine, because it’s manufactured especially for this purpose. Getting a jacket with the seams fully taped is probably a good investment if you are serious about staying warm and dry. A good jacket can even keep you dry when you take a dive into the snow. Next to taped seams, internal zipper guards are also a pretty good idea.

But being able to keep the cold out isn’t the complete story. A jacket also has to be able to keep the warmth in, or it is still useless. By buying an insulated ski jacket, you can make sure that you are going to keep all of your precious body warmth inside of the jacket. The layering that comes with insulated jackets, makes sure that heat gets trapped between the layers. It can’t go anywhere, all it can do is stay inside, which is exactly the place where you want to keep it. The downside of insulated jackets is that they are not as breathable as soft shell jackets, so there is the slight risk of sweating in an insulated jacket!
