The Problem with Smoking

September 1st, 2010

Globally, the world is encouraging everyone to stop smoking and live a healthier lifestyle. Education has always been the backbone of the quit smoking psychology and physiology. Today, legalization and restrictions have been included as a thorough reinforcement to stop smoking particularly in public places. The irony of smoking cessation is that it is this same government that establishes these restrictions that also collects more than 85% of taxes from a packet of cigarettes. In spite of these steps taken to curb the vice and change one’s habit, smoking still continues to kill over a thousand people each year multiplying by a shocking 80% each year.

For years, many governments and social bodies have attempted to persuade people to stop smoking through various methods. Every possible effort has been made to help people stop smoking such as setting up of various council classes to help people get over their habit. Modern society has also reverted to adverse steps to help people stop smoking. With the ban of cigarettes in public places, workers and employees have to now step outside their office buildings if they wish to indulge in a smoke. In spite of all such actions taken to ban smoking, it still persists.

Attempts such as displaying decayed images of the lungs, videos of smokers on packs of cigarettes have not resulted in the desired expectations. Quit smoking aids like lozenges, patches and gums have been introduced to help people overcome their addiction but to no avail. The problem persists and a full remedy to its solution is far away from the horizon. If you’re in a position to quit smoking, you should do so with haste. The fact of the matter is, smoking is one of the most disgusting habits that causes these deaths each year – it simply isn’t worth it. Quit smoking now.
