Selecting a Comfortable Camping Tent

August 2nd, 2010

One of the best and most affordable ways to vacation with your family is to go camping in the great outdoors.  It is a great alternative to expensive accommodations in a hotel.  While your accommodations at a hotel might be a little more comfortable there are steps you can take to be a little more comfortable while camping with your family.

One of the most important things you can decide on is a tent and it is probably the single most important factor to help you camp as comfortably as possible.  If you choose one that is too small you won’t be able to even roll over in the tent or use those air mattresses that you bought for the trip.  Worse yet, you might not even be able to sleep all the campers inside if it is too small.

The next reason why you don’t want to buy a cheap tent, meaning one that is inferior in quality, is because you never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at you during your trip.  In many popular camping locations it is not unusual for rainstorms and thunderstorms to randomly appear, this is especially true in the South and in the mountains.  So you want to make sure you have a tent that will be able to stand up to those things.

Find a tent that has a good footprint and a rain fly you should be ok but even these are not all the same quality.  You want to make sure the rain fly will cover the whole tent and not just the very top of it and the foot print is thick and sturdy so that water doesn’t get in through the bottom of the tent.

Lastly, the air flow in the tent will be crucial in keeping you comfortable.  A tent that has poor air circulation will become too hot and humid inside.  Lots of windows and doors will help you, as well as, mesh.
