How To Track Cell Phones

September 16th, 2010

You might not believe it but it’s true.  It’s possible now day’s to use your cell phone or your wife’s cell phone or your children’s cell phone as a GPS tracking device to keep track of them.  It seems like this would only be possible in the movies but it’s actually possible for the average everyday person to track the people that they care about with their cell phones.  It’s possible because all cell phone manufacturers put GPS receiver chips in the cell phones that they make now.

Before you can start using your cell phone as a GPS tracking device, you need to make sure that it will work with the cell phone tracking applications that are commonly available.  Some phones aren’t supported yet.  If you have a cell phone that supports downloading and installing apps on it, it will likely work for cell phone tracking.  These phones are usually called smart phones.

The apps that you can download on your cell phone for cell phone tracking are Sprint Family Locator, Google Latitude, Find My iPhone, MobiWee, and Glympse.  The Sprint cell phone tracker and Find My iPhone aren’t free but the others are.  It cost’s $5.00 a month for the Sprint service and $100 a year for the Find My iPhone service.

If you choose Google Latitude and many people do, you will download and install the app and then you will send friend requests to your friends who also have cell phones.  If they don’t already have Latitude installed on their cell phone’s they can do so and after they do, you will be able to accept your friend request.  When they have done that, you and all of your friends can keep track of each other through their cell phones.  Google has really jumped on the social network bandwagon with the Google Latitude free cell phone tracker.

Introducing The Glympse Cell Phone Locator

August 30th, 2010

If you are like the millions of Americans who have cell phones with GPS chips installed in them, you might be interested in learning about the a very cool service from a company called Glympse.  This company provides a cell phone locator service unlike any other.

With many of the free cell phone locator services on the market, you need to download and install special software onto your phone in order for it to work.  Even then, the service may only work with a handful of phones. Even some services that you must pay for require you to download and install software onto your phone.  With the Glympse cell phone locator service, all you have to do is go to the Glympse website from either your mobile browser on your phone or a computer and send a either an e-mail or a text message to anyone that you would like to be able to track your phone.

Unlike many cell phone locator services glimpse only allows that individual to track you for a predetermined length of time.  You can choose to duration from 15 minutes up to about an hour and 1/2. The provides a great advantage for business use.  Imagine that you are meeting with a group of clients for a business meeting at 1:00 PM.  Before you leave your office to meet them at theirs, you can log onto a computer and send them a message from Glympse that will allow them to log onto a computer and track your progress.

If you are running a little bit late, they don’t need to call you and ask you where you are.  They can simply look at a computer, see your location, and calculate your estimated time of arrival.  When the predetermined length of time has expired, they will no longer be able to track you.  This is perfect because you don’t necessarily want to give the ability to track your location to people all the time but it may be convenient if they can track you for specific occasions.
