Foods for Healthy Skin

September 9th, 2010

When was the last time you ate a greasy hamburger and fries?  It undoubtedly tasted great and you enjoyed the juicy texture of the meat, but it also probably left your face feeling murky and oily afterwards.  Not only that, but you will most likely see an effect on your waistline if this is your regular diet.  In this fast paced world, it is much easier to choose the quicker food option that is also unhealthier.  But over time we start to pay the price in various ways.  One of them is weight gain, and the other is the way our skin looks.  Our skin is certainly resilient and it is built to deal with a variety of negative influences that we face every day.  But it is up to us to help our skin by consuming healthy foods as much as possible.  This gives our skin the building blocks it needs to rejuvenate itself on a constant basis.  If you are dealing with skin problems or how to get rid of acne, then you should take a look at your diet as a way to improve the situation.

Citrus fruits are great for your skin and provide vitamin C that is vital to your body.  Best of all, they taste great and can be easily incorporated into any meal or as a snack.  You should try to eat as many oranges and grapefruits as possible as this will also ward off the common cold.  Most people eat some type of meat on a daily basis, but it is important to make healthy substitutes when possible.  Beef and pork are high in fat content which can lead to problems with body chemistry.  Try to balance it out by eating fish such as tuna and salmon once in awhile.  They are both high in omega 3s which are great at dealing with cholesterol levels in addition to combating wrinkles.  And of course vegetables are a great source of anti-oxidants that can help to prevent cancer in addition to improving the look of your skin.

There are many foods that can be good for your skin if applied directly as well.  If you are dealing with how to get rid of blackheads and oily skin, then a nice oatmeal mask mixed with honey might be the answer.  Egg whites are also great for your skin and can act as a toner to shrink pores.  There are also many combinations of fruits that can be applied to your skin to rejuvenate your cells.  And don’t forget about the basics like drinking plenty of water each day.  Water will help to flush out all of the toxins that build up over time.  Finally, make sure to complete your day with a solid amount of sleep so that your skin cells can repair themselves at night.

Skincare for Children

September 3rd, 2010

Kids are not supposed to apply any skin care products to their skin as their skin cells are yet to develop, hence it is imperative that parents try to keep their kids’ skin away from chemicals and other skin irritants found in non natural skincare products.

To maintain the development of their skin cells, you should use mild and hypo allergenic soap for their baths. There are also skin care products that are specially made for kids. Most of these products contain natural ingredients that pose no harm to the very sensitive skin of children.

It is also crucial that you not let your children be exposed to the harmful UV rays of the sun. However, knowing that kids are so fond of playing and spending time outdoors, like running around the backyard chasing the dogs, all you can do is give them the maximum skin protection against damage caused by the sun. There are various sun block creams that have different amounts of SPF.

Another area of concern is insect bites. When it comes to their protection against insect bites, it is advisable that you use one of the most effective types of insect repellants. These repellants come in different forms, namely lotion, cream, and spray. Choose the ones that contain citronella, which has been tested and proven to be effective in keeping insects away.

If you want your child to have a well hydrated and nourished skin, use baby lotion after every bath. You may also consider buying a bedtime lotion for your kids. This will not only soften their skin, but will also help them have a good night’s sleep.

Needless to say, it is very important that you give proper attention and care to your children’s skin so that they can keep their healthy and radiant skin throughout their growing years.
