How Offshore Fraud is Conducted

Are you wondering how offshore fraud actually works? Maybe you have received an email or information through the post that is tempting you to make an offshore investment? If you manage to find a good, genuine offshore investment opportunity then it can help you to make more money. However, there are so many scams available (particularly online) and these are what you really need to be wary of.

How it Works

Emails are the most common way in which fraudsters will contact you. This is because they are typically based abroad and email is the easiest point of contact. It is also more anonymous than any other type of contact too which makes the fraudster practically untraceable. The email will state that by switching to an offshore account you will save a lot of money in taxes. The main thing that draws most people in however is the promise of huge returns.

Once you have been drawn in, it is then time to part with your money. Many people have invested more than £10,000 in offshore accounts. There is sometimes a minimum limit placed by the fraudsters, but most of the time you can deposit as much as you like. Once you have made the deposit, you will begin to receive statements online. These aren’t actually worth anything. They are simply numbers that have been created to make you think that you are earning a lot of money from the investment. After a few months, these statements will stop and that will be the last time that you see your money.

The fraudsters will have been busy moving your money as you received the statements. By the time you realise that your money has gone it is usually too late to do anything about it. It is a big problem that is hard to detect. That is why to avoid offshore fraud you need to do as much research as possible into the opportunity that you are presented with.
