Wedding Gift Registries

August 11th, 2010

What’s a wedding registry?

A wedding registry is made up of items selected by an engaged couple from a store or online retailer. It offers the couple’s wedding guests a precise guide to what presents the bride and groom would prefer to receive on their wedding day. Though traditionally comprised of homewares, the registry concept has grown over the years to include a broader range of items. These days, a couple may list anything from standard linen and crockery through to a monetary contribution towards their honeymoon, a house deposit or even a charity contribution on the couple’s behalf (a’ la celeb couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.)

Why should we register?

Registering takes the guesswork out of what kind of pressies you want. With a list of hand-picked items to select from, guests can be sure they’re choosing a gift that truly reflects your taste. It’s a gentle way to direct them towards your preferred brands and styles (as opposed to their own). So even though Aunt Bev might love apricot towels for herself, a quick glance at your list will remind her that in your modern townhouse mocha-coloured towels will better suit the décor.

Being guided by your selection means the generosity of friends and relatives will not go to waste – so instead of stashing those apricot towels at the back of the bathroom cupboard, the mocha set will be used daily.

Having a wedding registry also takes care of the annoying double-up factor, so you don’t end up with a glut of some items… and none of others. Who really needs six different sets of red wine glasses or mismatched champagne flutes? Listing sets of goblets, white wine glasses and flutes, all in the same style, is far more practical.

Complete your list well before the invitations go out, so your registry is ready by the time guests receive notification

Another advantage of having a gift registry is that you can include big-ticket items, prompting family and friends to club together and purchase a significant gift that will really help establish your home. A few ideas are barbecues, lounge suites, sound systems, washing machines, dishwashers, and complete dinner sets.

Wedding Poems, A Beautiful Tradition

August 7th, 2010

For longer than documented history can record poems have been a way for us to pass stories, morals, history, and feelings from one generation to another. We have used poetry to mark special occasions so that they can be remembered for generations to come. The celebration of weddings are no exception and the joyous occasion of two people coming together has often been marked by poems. Wedding poems have been and are common practices used to illustrate the passion and love between a newly married couple.

Whether you want to convey your hopeful passion for the future, share your adoration for the person you are about to wed, or simply share all the joy in your heart a wedding poem can be ideal. Placed upon an invitation it can show your guests what you feel and provide a preview of the event to come. Tucked in a card your guests can show you their hope for the years ahead of you. Even recited aloud in front of all your friends and family you can pledge your love and loyalty to your partner. This tradition is popular amongst many cultures and can be a lifelong memory for everyone in your wedding.

Not everyone is a poet and many people find writing their feelings to be hard. Fortunately there are many companies and individuals out there who can assist you with your needs. Many companies will personalize and write a poem or set of poems for you and your spouse, others will happily sell you pre-written poetry that you select. Wedding planners will often assist you in writing your own, helping you to bring out those feelings into words.

No matter what your need, be it a wedding or renewing vows, or what your budget there are a plethora of ways to obtain wedding poems. This is an excellent way to follow tradition, to show your feelings, or to understand how your guests feel about you and your future partner. Even if you aren’t a poet yourself there are still plenty of ways to practice this adored tradition.

Planning a Destination Wedding

July 30th, 2010

If you are going to have a destination wedding in a tropical paradise then perhaps you are looking for some tropical wedding invitations. A destination wedding can be a wonderful idea. It can offer a time of relaxation and bonding for not just the bride and groom but also close friends and family that are invited to go along. Of course a wedding like this is likely to be small, but the biggest benefit is that the bride and groom may actually get to enjoy the wedding and talk to their guests. Too often at weddings the couple has to budget their time and only gets to spend a minute or two with each of their guests and worries that they will not get a chance to talk to everyone. A destination offers a chance to truly relax and enjoy ones life.

The decorating process may be a bit more complicated for a wedding of this nature because you will not get a chance to see what the venue looks like until it is time for you to be there. Some ways to be able to prepare in advance is to create the paper goods that you may like to have their like place cards and wedding favors. Of course tropical wedding invites would be very appropriate, but you might try some modern wedding invites that are somewhat travel themed, this may be a good way to make the entire event a surprise, but you will want to clue your guests in on how to pack. You should try to think about actually being at the venue, even though you cannot be there. Do you plan on having the reception indoors or outdoors? This could be very important because you wouldn’t want you decorations to blow away in the wind.

A destination wedding could be a wonderful idea for a wedding although it may end up costing quite a lot of money. The best thing about it is that you would be like giving the closest people in your life a vacation.

Wedding Planning Tips

July 29th, 2010

Trying to organize a wedding party can be daunting when you have a limited budget. Being frustrated that you cannot let your better half have the most unforgettable day does not help at all. Instead, you should try to be creative and perhaps plan for a sweet and simple classic wedding being held in the countryside and reduce the number of guests to only your relatives and close friends. Scrutinize your wedding invitation list and weed out who you feel are not closely related to you or your spouse and you will have a lot more money left over to make sure your spouse is happy.

There is no rule written in stone that says you have to invite every relative and business acquaintance, going into debt for your wedding doesn’t make for a good start to married life.

Since weddings are most likely to be once in a lifetime events, you should really plan and make sure everything is as good as it gets. Do not look for popular wedding venues as those hot spots will surely cost you an arm and a leg. Put your thinking cap on and plan to hold your wedding in the park or in nice cafes which can be far more enjoyable than grand hotels.

No matter how limited your budget may be, it is absolutely crucial that you fork out enough cash to buy term life insurance and name your spouse as your beneficiary. This simple action will provide the both of you with peace of mind that in the unlikely event if something bad happens, your spouse will never have to go hungry. Take note of your monthly outgoing cash flow and make sure your sum assured is enough to cover at one year of living expenses. To kill two birds with a stone, get an insurance plan that you will allow you to save money while still providing you with coverage.

Just remember that nothing is set in stone and you should adapt to whatever changes needed when planning for your big day.

Gorgeous Garden Weddings

July 29th, 2010

Gardens and the outdoors are one of those things which have the power to lend true magic to a wedding celebration. In England, it’s not legally possible to actually marry in a private garden, but many licensed premises have wonderful outdoor areas which can be put to good use. It’s much more common to marry outdoors in the States, but even then the ceremonies tend to take place in garden wedding venues with public access, such as a botanical garden or one belonging to a university campus. If you’re considering getting married in Europe and want a garden wedding, then perhaps the most fabulous setting of all is the Mirabell Garden in Salzburg, Austria. The ceremonies themselves are held in the magnificent Schloss Palace.

Wherever you choose to have your garden wedding, it’s unwelcome but practical to remember to make sure that your venue has some kind of indoor space to retire to should the worst of the weather occur. A very effective halfway option is look at marquees with sides which are open to the elements, but can be closed at a moment’s notice. This gives you all of the outdoor atmosphere without any of the hassle of running for cover if the heavens open!

There are many styles and planning ideas which complement a garden wedding, but here are just a few: Garden weddings are of course most likely to happen in summer. Why not consider a buffet-style meal rather than a formal, served-at-table affair? The informality of this arrangement suits a summer garden wedding perfectly. You may also wish to decorate your cake with fresh flowers instead of sugar ones to tie in with the natural theme. If there are trees around, why not hang white fairy lights in them? This creates a lovely, magical atmosphere, especially as afternoon turns to evening. Lastly, garden weddings really benefit from a live band rather than a DJ, if you can find a good one! If you can combine all these things, your garden wedding should be the best day of your life.
