Dilemma and Discussion on Buying Coin Operated Pool Tables

Sometime soon, maybe in the next few years, I’d really like to open my own pool hall. I don’t want anything too grand – these days pool and billiards have sort of dropped in popularity – but I grew up playing in pool leagues. I learned how to play pool for beginners at an early age, and then spent over 15 years learning how to get even better in the sport, and if I’m going to open a business of any kind it might as well be in the pool industry.

One of the things I will have to consider, depending on the size of the establishment I build, will be whether or not I want to use coin operated pool tables. If I only have a few tables, I might now want to have to worry about actually dispensing out the racks of balls, or being available for when customers return the balls either. It might just be easier with coin-ops. Let the tables run themselves.

Now, some of you might ask “How could I possible entertain the idea of clunky, clanky coin operated pool tables?” I grew up on the good stuff, right, those beautiful 9 foot tables with well-maintained cloth and rails? Why would I forgo that natural quality for hollow machine-tables? Well, aside from the freedom that coin-ops offer, I also came across a business in Michigan called Sheltie. They offer some great-quality coin operated pool tables, sharp designs that really seem to exceed to old-school clunkers you’re imagining.

One of my favorite features these guys offer is a programmable, electronic dollar bill/coin stacker and table-manager. Now that is pretty neat! This thing has a free-play switch, steel lock and door, and some really cool programming choices:

With the similar quality to average, standard, pool tables in today’s market, there aren’t too many pros and cons to weigh. These coin-ops are very comparable. The real deciding factors for whether or not I’ll choose them will be my love of standard tables battling against my desires for freedom and flexibility in my business. Heck I might even compromise and choose to put in a couple coin-ops AND a few standard tables.

I plan on making a physical examination soon, to help me in my decision process. Hopefully this discussion has opened up your eyes to some new possibilities. I know it’s helped me sort out my thoughts on the matter.

Stiga Table Tennis Tops

There are many different fun activity products designed for people to use in their homes. Among these items you will find an assortment of tennis tables, pool tables and foosball tables. The Stiga table tennis conversion top is a product designed to turn a standard pool table into a surface for playing tennis in no time. One model available in this line is the Fusion. This is a surface that comes in a black style with a white banded edge. This model fits either a seven or eight foot size table and has convenient side strips to make sure your top is aligned properly.

The duo model comes in the classic green style with white edging. This top also fits standard seven or eight foot tables and comes with the mounts for adding a net. The side stiffeners mounted to the net help to keep the top edge straight and erect during play. The net is not included with this model of table converter top. The back of the product has sponge rubber strips to add protection to the surface of the table underneath and to also help keep the top in place while you are playing.
