Spray Tanning – The Low Down!

July 29th, 2010

If you are like me and you want to look good at all times, then I’m willing to bet you detest having white, pale skin. When the summer hits, I always make sure to get a good tan that will last me for months. But the truth is, when the winter season arrives, my tan has all but disappeared and I’m left with my pale skin once again. For many years, I have resisted the urge to visit the tanning salon because I felt the experience just wouldn’t live up to tanning outdoors. But when I was offered a good deal by a tanning salon nearby, I decided to give it a shot.

Many tanning booths nowadays emit a spray that will assist you in achieving your desired tan quicker. There are many tanning products already on the market, such as tan accelerators and tan moisturizers. But with a tanning booth, you can simply enter the booth and get sprayed by a mist which contains a substance called DHA. This stands for dihydroxyacetone. This chemical binds to your dead skin cells, which are the outer layer of your skin. You are shedding dead skin cells constantly and the tan, unfortunately, comes along with it. A spray tan will gradually fade and last about a week.

Despite the very short lifespan of the spray tan, there are a couple of benefits over regular tanning. The obvious benefit is that it is much quicker, naturally. You simply get in the booth and a few minutes later you step out with a great tan. Spray tanning is very accessible and it is now widely available at indoor tanning salons everywhere. There are much less stains, blotches and streaks than you are going to inevitably develop when you are using tan accelerators.

It is possible that the spray will, in some cases, trigger an allergic reaction to the skin. Also, some people have reported the development of lung problems after spray tanning, so it is recommended to avoid breathing in too much of the spray if you can. The tan only lasts a short while, so constant maintenance of it would be quite costly. It’s a great technology, but please use it wisely!

If spray tanning isn’t for you, then you might want to try out a few accelerators. Accelerators will give you a real tan! Read this Designer Skin Spellbound Tan Accelerator Review to see if that one is to your liking. Another accelerator that gave me quick and really good results, is the one you’ll find at this Black Night Thermal Emulsion Tan Accelerator Lotion Review!

The Spray Tanning Process

July 29th, 2010

Its that time of year when we all want that summer glow. Lets face it a tan makes us look better to everyone else that sees us and helps maintain a healthy self image. So its no wonder that tanning is such big business. Now if you are an outdoor person then getting tan in the summer is a piece of cake. But if you are not, or you have very little “me” time then perhaps a spray tan is your safest and best option. Many of us just hit the tanning bed on a regular basis to get bronze but if you are very skin conscious and want to keep it from being damaged then spray tanning is your best bet.

The spray on tan is somewhat of an art and depending on where you go can be a very good alternative to tanning beds or the sun. How it works is the DHA in a spray tans goes through a reaction with the skins amino acids to create a nice bronze glow. There are numerous formulas and creations used by various salons to match your skin tone and the color you are looking to achieve. You can do this one of two ways, either a spray tan booth in most tanning salons or you can go to a technician who will apply it manually for you – this is called the airbrush tan.

The process in a spray booth is simple. Unlike using a tan accelerator you apply to yourself before getting into the tanning bed, you simply walk into a spray booth that has several sprayers directed at your body. They spray up and down for up to ten second intervals. The whole things lasts under a minute and within 4 to 6 hours after is when you see the results. It is not wise to get in water for at least 5 hours. Some solutions are clear in which case you really dont need to shower that night if you do not want to. However if you used a solution with a bronzer then you are going to want to shower at some point or you will likely stain your sheets brown.

The length of time you can expect to hold a spray tanning color is about a week to ten days. However the more you do it the more your skin will adjust to it which will result in longer lasting tanning.
