Childrens Size Silver Bangle Bracelets and Clip On Earrings For Kids

August 9th, 2010

Bangle bracelets have been worn by little babies and kids all over Asia and Africa for centuries, but it’s more recently become popular in the West. But the biggest challenge is finding the childrens size silver bangle bracelets that will not just fit but be comfy and also not get lost. I say, “silver” because although there are bangles in gold, I think it’s best to stick with more affordable jewelry when it comes to kids…even with great care bracelets can fall off, get damaged while playing and just be a nuisance to a child if they are always being reminded to take care of an expensive item of jewelry. So, I focus on silver bangles.

Limoges Jewelry has the cheapest sets of baby and kids bangles. They have the sterling silver mother sentiment bracelet that’s really cheap at just under $20. I don’t think you need to pay more than $15 or $20 for baby or kids bangles no matter where you decide to shop, in fact you can even get stacking sets from Indian dealers for under $10. If you think you need to pay $50 or $100 for baby bangles then they better be diamond studded! And if you want some really fun and cheap childrens size silver bangle bracelets for about $7 go to places like Carma, or Swathi Jewelleries which has really funky designs for about $12.

Clip On Earrings For Kids

Although many children now have pierced ears, some parents prefer to wait and let their children decide when they are ready to get a piercing. Until then, little girls may want to dress up and wear clip on earrings for kids. There are such things as mother – daughter clip on sets, but most of the ones I’ve seen aren’t very original and seem too expensive. For some reason the clip on styles in white gold are really expensive, over $100, and the alternative seems to be stick on styles that are about $4 or $5 and look really cheap. I suggest choosing small ladies clip on styles instead of trying to find things that are marketed specifically for kids. They’re prettier and better quality and easier to find. There’s no need to pay hundreds of dollars when you can get really funky ladies earrings that clip on for about $20 or less. Just look for small drop pearl earrings, small hoops and huggy styles.

Shopping For Small Jewelry Boxes

August 4th, 2010

Whether you have your own jewelry company and sell necklaces, bracelets and other pieces, or you just like to make jewelry as a hobby and give it to your family and friends you will need some small jewelry boxes. These are especially useful for rings, earrings and other smaller pieces that will fit snugly inside. A jewelry box helps improve the overall presentation of the piece while also ensuring its safety.

When you need to purchase small jewelry boxes there are a few steps you should take. Start by shopping around at some of your local jewelry supply or craft stores. You should be able to find a nice selection of boxes to choose from. If you want a less limited selection, head online to start your search. Here you have access to millions of stores from all around the world. This is also more convenient because rather than driving around from one store to the next you can shop right over your computer.

Make sure you shop around and compare prices from one store to the next. There is no point in paying more than you have to. Consider the color and material of the box. This is important because it should suit your style of jewelry design. For instance if you make more casual pieces you can stick with a less elegant and less expensive jewelry box, while if your pieces are higher quality it is best to get just as nice a box.

Presentation is everything and even the nicest jewelry pieces can look cheap when not packaged appropriately. Some jewelry designers actually take on the task of making the boxes themselves. This requires much more time and effort than shopping at a store for them but if you are trying to cut your budget as much as possible it is a good idea.

The Many Choices in Jewelry Boxes

July 30th, 2010

Jewelry organizers currently on sale in today’s markets are indeed enticing, but nothing beats the luxury of conventional jewelry boxes.  Although prices of these organizers will go up and down, the fact remains the most people still use miniature jewelry boxes to keep their most prized jewelry – that is, engagement or marriage rings – and that never seems to change for years.  Both that is just one type of jewelry boxes being offered by the market today for there are countless variations of jewelry boxes according to types and designs, including (but not limited to) leather jewelry boxes, handcrafted jewelry cases, valet boxes for men, cardboard jewelry boxes, jewelry boxes with multiple compartments and trays and many more.

There are definitely variations of jewelry boxes when it comes with storage capacity.  All we know is that the most famous of them all is the little jewelry box that can accommodate only a single jewelry piece.  Tradition tells us that engagement rings and marriage rings are conventionally kept in miniature little jewelry boxes, usually in colors red and black.  But to accommodate more jewelry pieces there are also jewelry boxes can accommodate 10 to 15 rings or earrings and 5 to 7 necklaces and bracelets.  If not for personal use, jewelry boxes in the form of trays and compartments can be commonly seen in jewelry stores where they display their items for sale.

As for the materials from which they are made of, equally expensive as any other storage kit are leather jewelry boxes.  Quality and genuine leather boxes come in small packages and they are usually expensive because they are intricately made and designed by hand.  Most of the designers for leather jewelry boxes accept personal customizations of jewelry boxes.  Cheaper types of jewelry boxes are those made of plastic and cardboard or faux leather jewelry boxes.  The designs and features also varies – there are jewelry boxes that incorporate fine silk to protect the jewelry piece while others’ designs are lined with soft fabric.

Men also have their own styles and versions of jewelry boxes – they are usually sleek black in color and bigger to accommodate not only rings or bracelets, but also watch pockets and wristwatches.  They usually come in leather.  Women, on the other hand, love the conventional color red in their jewelry boxes as it exudes aura of both seduction and luxury.

Jewelry boxes are extremely broad in types and kinds that it is almost impossible to pinpoint the standard list.  Designers for jewelry boxes tend to come up with revolutionary designs every now and then so as to satisfy the creative demands of jewelry aficionados and connoisseurs.  But roughly it all boils down to factors like jewelry storage capacity, materials from which they are made of, designs and features, and gender differences.

Four Reasons to Love Antique Jewelry Boxes

July 28th, 2010

I have been collecting jewelry boxes since I was a child. I am not sure exactly what got me started; however, it probably has a lot to do with my grandmother. When I spent time with her during the summers we would often open her chest at the foot of her bed and pull out the various jewelry boxes she owned. She would go through each box with me and show me the various jewelry pieces she had, explain what they were made of, and let me try them on. I remember each jewelry box that she had in her chest to this day and can picture each in mind. She had three antique wooden jewelry boxes as well as a couple newer leather boxes. She even had a few small silver and pewter jewelry boxes that she kept around the house which she used to store special things in. Ever since then, I have been addicted to jewelry boxes. Here are my four favorite things about antique jewelry boxes.

  1. The craftsmanship – Jewelry boxes are not made the same way today that they were in my grandmother’s day. Back in her day, jewelry boxes were mostly hand crafted from wood and each was crafted with pride. The workmanship on these boxes was exquisite with dovetail joints, elaborate carvings, detailed designs, top quality woods, and with beautiful hinges and accoutrements. This is why I spend most of my time today searching for quality antique jewelry boxes.
  2. The smell – Each jewelry box has its own distinct smell that is created by the wood, stain, and interior lining. When you open a quality jewelry box you can almost smell the craftsmanship and love that has been poured into its construction. If the boxes are anything like my grandmothers, you may even catch a hint of lavender or perfume from the sachets she would store in the same chest.
  3. The design – Jewelry boxes come in all different shapes and sizes and each seems to have its own unique design. I love to study the design of jewelry boxes since their designs can be as unique as those found in the different period building of New York City.
  4. Their history – Every time I see an antique jewelry box I can only wonder what kind of history is behind the box. Who owned it? What was kept in it? Who designed and built it? If only each box could speak to its history and what it has seen. However, since they cannot speak, I love to use my imagination to conjure up a scene.
