Finding the Right WordPress Host

May 10th, 2011

Do you run your business online? When things go wrong – and, sadly, they probably will at some stage – are you confident that your WordPress webhosting company can help?

That depends, to a large extent, on the work you put in initially deciding who will host your website.

Whether you go with a free host, or pay top dollar, it’s important that your host has the kind of customer service and technical support you need.

Here are some things you need to find about before signing up with a WordPress hosting company:

Does the company offer 24 hour a day support – not only on the phone, but via email and live chat?

As a customer, you should be able to chat with the company as soon as you discover you have a problem. Nobody wants to wait around to get their problem fixed, it can cost you money as well as time.

If the company offers email support, that can be really useful. That way you can attach files and screen shots, which can often save time as it can be difficult to describe problems over the phone.

How long has the webhosting company been in business? A quick Google search will tell you when they were created, and if they’ve existed for a year or two then you can be reasonably sure they will be around for the long term.

It’s difficult to be sure the company will do what they advertise. They may make a number of claims on their website, but how can you be sure?

One way is to go onto business forums like the Warrior Forum and search for discussions on the company

Or just Google the company’s name, and find out if there are negative comments about their service. If there are not many, you can maybe regard them as a safe bet and decide to at least evaluate their service for a while.

How to Choose the Main Addition to Your Living Room

April 27th, 2011

For most households the function of the living room, often the biggest room downstairs is for watching the TV. It’s no surprise that most families small or large like to splash out on this item for their living rooms.

When buying a new TV, there are a number of factors to be considered. Budget is of course the most important consideration but it is important to take other things into account to ensure you get the right model for you.

HD TVs are no longer just for watching television programmes, they are perfect for watching films and gaming using a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.

So to get the right one, you first need to consider where in the house you want to place the TV set. Living rooms will accommodate larger screens, over 32 inches, but if it for viewing in the bedroom or kitchen a smaller model would be more appropriate.

The next factor to be taken into account is what type of viewing you will be doing. For sports fans, a 50 inch plasma TV or LCD set is ideal, this way it’s big enough and you have a clear picture you won’t miss any crucial part of the game. If you will be watching a lot of films or enjoy gaming, look out for a 1080p set as this will provide the optimum picture quality.

The get the measuring tape out, remembering screen size is measured diagonally! The bigger the room, the larger the screen – especially for wall mounted TVs. Anything over 32 inches needs to be viewed from at least three metres away to get the best picture.

Don’t forget those essential extras – such as long Scart or HDMI cables. If you want to view in HD and have an HD ready TV, you’ll need built-in Freeview or a separate Sky+ HD, Freeview HD or Freesat HD box.

Follow these pointers, and you won’t go far wrong – and shouldn’t need to replace your TV for at least five years.

File Recovery USB Devices: Finding And Retrieving Lost Data

September 27th, 2010

In terms of data recovery USB Flash devices are just as simple to scan for lost documents as an internal hard drive. This article discusses simple process for retrieving files from USB device along with some of the problems associated with finding your documents.

Using software to recover USB data is one of the easier PC repairs that most people can do for themselves. The process does require using specialist software, but due to the fact that Flash memory uses the fat 32 file system (same as Windows), there are a large amount of freeware tools available for doing the job.

The process is normally quite standard:

  • Download, install and start your data recovery tool of choice. Some suggested freeware options would be Recuva, Undelete Plus and Photo Rec.
  • Once started, select the USB drive for an initial scan and analysis.
  • Your file recovery tool will scan through the USB memory looking for signs of data clusters. Several of these constitute each document that you work on and maybe situated around the Flash memory (i.e. not all on the same sector). The program also uses the file allocation table as a way of identifying which clusters belong together.
  • The tool will finish its scan and show you a list of all the documents it was able to find. This may turn out to be quite a large list full of temporary and cached versions of files, so you may need to trawl through a large list in order to find your files. Once found, pick the ones you want and copy them over to a new location (CD/DVD/HDD).

The success rate of these applications can vary based on a few factors. First, if you continued to save files to the USB device then there is a good chance of these new documents overwriting any old or deleted clusters which had been lost. As a result, you may only be able to find partial fragments of some of your documents.

If you are attempting to recover USB contents from a formatted device then be aware that some formatting tools will also do a data/evidence cleansing sweep of the device. This will, in effect, clear away all your old data clusters completely. If you simply use a regular formatting tool then there is a good chance that you will be able to find your files as the normal format process only clears down the file allocation table (leaving data clusters untouched).

When it comes to data recovery USB devices can easily be analyzed. However, this does not mean that the software will always be successful, therefore, it is even more essential that USB devices are backed up as this will prove to be a much more effective way of restoring lost data.

Backup Files – Are Online Systems Better Than Local Backups?

September 26th, 2010

Everybody knows that it is essential to backup files on a regular basis. However, not everybody does. This article takes a look at the two principal approaches to making backups: burning a local copy or uploading your files to a web-based backup server.

The traditional approach to making data backups is to burn a CD or DVD, or synchronize files to an external hard drive. With this approach, you do not require an Internet connection in order to save and retrieve your documents should you need them. You can also pick and choose exactly when you make your backup copies. Best of all, you are not limited by the amount of files that you can store so long as you have enough blank discs or a large loft hard drive (you could even make a ghost image of your computer if desired).

However, making local backups and burning CDs can take up and off a lot of your time, so this can potentially put people off maintaining a regular backup schedule. There is also the danger that the original data (stored on your computer) and your backup copies will be stored in the same location, so there is the potential of both being lost due to test or fire damage.

By contrast, many online services now exist for uploading your personal files to backup servers. These are normally commercial operations which do however have a subscription cost involved, and a limit on the volume of files that can be uploaded. You also need to have a fast Internet connection if you are uploading large amounts of files. In addition, your backup files cannot be used for PC system maintenance when your computer is down due to Internet connection problems or virus damage (you have no access to the remote files).

Online backup servers do however provide an invaluable way of accessing your files while you’re on the move. This means, for people who travel with their laptop, they can maintain backup copies while on the road. In addition, the services often use some form of client application which automates the process of producing backups, uploading your files to the backup servers without any manual intervention on your part, so there is less chance of forgetting to backup.

As long as you backup files to some location there is a good chance that you’ll be able to retrieve and restore data should go missing or be deleted by accident.

Improving Slow PC Performance Start-up Times

September 20th, 2010

Waiting around for a slow PC to boot up fully can be tedious and monotonous wait. This article takes a look at some simple processes or actions that you can do to improve the speed with which Windows will boot up for you.

As Windows is booting up, it initializes a number of applications, programs and services which are used by the operating system as the computer is running. It  is up to you to decide which applications are initialized and then improve the applications which you leave enabled.

Windows provides a technical utility application called system configuration which can be used to display and enable/disable which services are run as Windows boots up. You can run this application via the start menu, run program by entering the phrase msconfig.

Once the application starts, go to the Startup tab to view the list of applications which run at start-up. Unfortunately, the applications are only listed using their execution file name rather than any sort of user-friendly program name. Therefore, you have to be familiar with the applications before you disable them, so it is best to research any execution file names first before deciding to disable them, as they may be critical programs (such as anti-virus applications).

Now that you have disabled some of these applications which are initialized, you should look to the remaining applications that are left enabled. For each application, you can check in the task manager application how much RAM memory, the use and see if it is excessive. If it is, then you should consider updating the application and checking if there are any known performance problems with the application. It is also worth using PC maintenance software or registry cleaners to repair any registry settings and DLL files which these programs may be using.

In addition to the above, you should also consider improving the general overall performance of your slow PC. The starting point for doing this would be to add more RAM, especially if you only have one megabyte of RAM on your PC at the moment. In addition, you should also check that there is enough disk space on the hard drive (at least 10% left empty) for virtual memory and the paging file to expand. Finally, your slow PC performance may well be due to disk fragmentation. Use the disk defragmenter application to reorder the data on your hard drives into an optimum manner.

The Evolution Of Acer Netbooks

September 17th, 2010

The late 2000’s are the years of utmost innovation. Top of the line technology in computers are designed not to impose sophisticated and modern technology to the consumers. Instead, what happened was a great 360 degree turn – instead of making the consumer gobble up new jargon filled technology, it is technology that is now making things a lot easier for a consumer, with new devices that are stripped off to the basic uses with a promise of utmost portability and connectivity.

Acer is aware of this. But more than that, it knows that apart from portability and connectivity, another major factor to lead in the netbook business is to offer the companies utmost affordability in their products. Acer netbooks can be said to be the preferred brand in the netbook industry because of its design, connectivity, portability and the fact that one doesn’t have to break the bank just to purchase one.

In 2009, Acer netbooks rose to being the 2nd largest and most successful of netbook manufacturers (second to Asustek, according to Wired Magazine). However Acer is not one to sit on its laurels. As technology evolves, Acer is poised to innovate and take the netbook technology to another level.

While the mentioned triumvirate of portability, connectivity and affordability have made Acer netbooks the preferred netbook, Acer has decided to step up with advanced technology that will make a netbook a sophisticated device apart from being just an internet device with basic uses.

Acer Aspire One Netbooks will soon be equipped with feature AMD Athlon II Neo processors, which are the top of the line technology at this day and age. Also, ATI Radeon graphics and versions of Windows 7 are also slipped inside the mini wonder. These new technologies will enable the netbooks to run high-definition games, applications and websites.

The Aspire One AO721 is an 11.6-inch wonder. It has CrystalBrite LED backlit display. The hardware is sophisticated with cover that minimizes finger smudges. It is one inch thick, three pounds and has a full-sized keyboard. With 2GB of DDR3 memory and up to a 250GB internal hard drive, the netbook is bound to be a winner ware.

On the other hand, the Acer Aspire One 521 netbook is smaller with 10.1 inch CrystalBrite LED backlit display and weighs a bit lighter at 2.75 pounds, with 1GB of DDR3 memory and up to 250GB internal hard drive. Both netbooks are equipped with Windows 7 starter.

What’s more interesting in these netbooks is the new Multi-Gesture Touchpad. This touchpad has an “anti-slip microbead” texture that allows safer touchpad handling and at the same time features an innovative scroll, zoom in and out functions that will enable users to and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

Recover Hard Disk Data: Mechanical Faults, Software Problems And Lost Files

September 11th, 2010

In most circumstances, it should be possible to recover hard disk data even after component or software damage has occurred. This article steps through the three main types of file recovery options to consider.

Starting with the worst-case scenario: mechanical damage. If your drive is water damaged then you can attempt to let it dry out naturally (no direct heat source) before attempting to test. If internal disk components have come loose then you may also try opening the disk to check for the parts to tighten up. However, if there is a crunching noise from the disk then the bearings/heads may have seized and you are better off leaving it to a data recovery expert to recover hard disk data.

If instead there is a software fault that is stopping your computer from booting and accessing the disk data then you have to take a different tact. Start by trying to boot up the PC in safe in order to run the system using less services. Alternatively, use the last known good configuration option as Windows starts to revert back to earlier (healthy) copies of the registry and system programs.

Finally, if Windows boots fine but the data is lost on the disk’s memory (i.e. was deleted, corrupted or formatted) then you can resort to PC system software such as Recuva or Undelete Plus (both freeware) in order to scan the drive for lost data clusters on the hard disk memory. Your chances of finding lost files improves if the disk has not been used excessively, as this causes new files to be saved over the lost documents.

If you are unable recover hard disk contents or feel less technically capable of making these attempts then any good PC repair technician should be able to use their own data recovery software and tools to retrieve hard disk data.

Check keyword density

September 10th, 2010

An article should be understandable so it can get the attention of the audience. With the advancement of online business thousands of SEO have decided that density of keywords in article is a technique that is used by the webmasters to get traffic to the websites created by them. Keyword density = specific word / all words. Keyword volume indicates the entire number that the particular key phrase has appeared on the blog or on the post.

Appropriate keyword volume must be approximately 5-7 percent, because if it is higher number then it will capture the spam filters of internet search engines like Bing and it will be treated as spam. That is why it is good to use only 5 % key phrase volume – it would look genuine both to robots and customers.

Ways of checking the keyphrase density

1 First copy the article in Word.

2 In ‘Edit’ button, click ‘Select All’ tab. Then, simply click the ‘Tools’ button & choose the ‘Word
Count’ tab. Now you can notice the count of all phrases froum the post.

3 At the end, you know the word count, just check how times you used the specific keyword and do the calculations

Keyword density

A keyphrase density tool mainly focuses on the data and simple estimates just how much it is said in the blog post. It was essential in old days in contrast to nowadays.

However keyword density nowadays is practised mostly to get you more site visitors with the correct use of more long tail key phrases. Thus you will get more visitors without spending extra money to build different one way links. That is the reason why it will provide you with perfect ROI(Return of investment), so it isvital for all kind of companies, but it is not the magical button that will provide your web page with visitors and top position in Search machines.

Having Stock Control Software for Your Business

September 8th, 2010

Monitoring of stock plays an important role in the running of a business. This keeps the people working for the business aware when to order a new batch and when to hold it first. Doing this manually however is not only tiring but also confusing and could be inaccurate resulting to business losses that could have been avoided if there is a reliable system that could be used for any business monitoring. The long wait is over. There is now the stock control software, available for businesses. This came along with the computerization of almost every process that is used today by offices and institutions. Interestingly, the columns and rows used by this computerized software is much close to the ones that is used in manual monitoring. This is just better because it is flexible and can be accessed easily. The data is also much easier to manage.

Another good thing about such software is that you can input at the same time the prices of every item that is within stock. With just a few clicks in the computer, you can have the profile of every item and check how many items of what stock is available. You also don’t need to manually compute the total value of what you have in stock because the software will also do it for you with just a few taps in your computer. With it you get to save the money that you have to pay for employees who will have to spend laborious hours in counting the items. What’s best is that you can rely on its 100% accuracy.

Another feature of the stock control software is its bar coding scheme. When the stocks come in, you don’t have to input the data about the item manually in the computer. All you need is to have the code run through the reader. Yes, that easy with these stock tips. You can also set up the software in such a way that it will give a prompt when the stocks has gone low and it is already necessary to place an order. Convenience and reliability- these are what this software is all about.
