Stay Awake While Driving with a Nap Alarm Device

September 1st, 2010

There are many tasks that we have to undertake in the course of a day that require a high level of alertness. These tasks may range from staying alert at school to staying alert in more dangerous situation like while driving. While both of these situations are important they have different consequences. Falling asleep at school will either get you in trouble or will mean that you missed important class material. Falling asleep at the wheel of a car could mean the difference between life and death.

There are so many instances during the day that require us to stay alert that many people resort to products that help keep them awake. The most common of these products is caffeinated beverages. Coffee has long been used as the picker-upper drink of choice. In recent years, energy drinks have hit the market with a vengenous. Both of these choices can help but they also have some draw backs. Caffeine and sugar can cause heart papitations and increased blood pressure in some people. Others simply don’t like the taste.

The other issue is that the effects of caffeinated and energy drinks wears off fairly quickly. For both this reason and the physiological effects already mentioned, many people are now turning to tech gadgets to help them stay alert. One example of such a device is a nap alarm. It sits behind the ear in exactly the same way as a Bluetooth device. It works in accordance to the position of your head. If your head tilts forward, a sign you’re falling asleep, the device will either beep or vibrate and wake you up.

Whether you need to stay awake on the job, at school or at work, a nap alarm is a good alternative to other chemical choices. In the case of driving, driving tired is the equivalent to driving drunk. Using a device to alert you if you start to nod off will allow you to pull over for a short nap and possibly save the loss of property from a car accident or worse, the loss of life.

Find Discount Wheels the Easy Way

August 17th, 2010

It used to be that finding a good deal on wheels and tires was only something that came in the form of coupons in the mail. With the emergence of the internet, hundreds of thousands of businesses have the chance to market their products to the masses. Almost every company runs constant specials on wheels and tires and if they don’t, then it might not be the best place to buy. Small local companies in the community may offer great quality wheels but if one gets scratch, the question remains – Are there others to replace them?

Sometimes it’s better to go mainstream when getting a set in the event one get messed up. That doesn’t mean a generic, run of the mill, low quality wheel is the way to go either. It’s best to way the options between a couple online stores and a handful of local dealers. If a person can support a small business, get a set of quality tires and also get a great price for them all then that is the best way to go.

Buying wheels from a reputable large retail chain is definitely an affordable option. They may not stand out but they will get the job done. Stores such as Discount Tires or Pep Boys have brand name tires that are competitively priced and reliable. Most have decent warranties in the event the tire blows out. However, if custom wheels are being bought, it is wise to check out a specific custom wheel shop. Make sure the wheel and tire size are compatible by talking to a customer representative. Most employees at these specialty shops are more than happy to explain what will work best. They might push for the more expensive products which is why it’s important to know what is needed ahead of time.

Great Gifts for Men Who Like Tools

July 31st, 2010

Buying a gift for a man can be a little difficult.  Most men aren’t really open about what they want.  In addition, if you are a woman, even if you know the kinds of stuff he likes, it may be hard to know exactly what to get.

For example, you may know that he likes tools.  But then you might not know what brands he likes or specifically what kind of tools he actually needs.  In an effort to help you find that right gift, here are a few things that almost no guy wouldn’t like.

Let me start with a multimeter.  It’s a device that measure electrical devices.  The best one you can get for the price is probably the Fluke 87-5 digital multimeter.  First of all, it is made by Fluke.  Don’t get him a multimeter that is built by another company.  That would be embarrassing.  Fluke’s are the best in the world for multimeter instruments and every guy knows it.

You can also get him a Black and Decker Start It Jump Starter.  These devices jump start cars without the need of another vehicle.  He may need it at some point.  But that’s not the point.  He will look really good as a man if someone is in distress and can’t start their car, and he busts out with one of these things.  It’s a serious man-gift.

Come to think of it, pretty much anything from Black and Decker would be great.  If he doesn’t have a drill, get him a B&D drill.  They produce some of the best engineered devices in the world.

You can also get a portable power device.  Get one that does both AC and DC power.  This will enable him and his buddies to be able to watch TV, listen to the radio, charge their cell phones and use their laptops outdoors.  It’s the perfect gift for someone who likes to go camping and fishing, but also likes entertainment.

Beginners guide to motor oil

July 29th, 2010

Everyone who drives a car should be aware how oil makes their car run safely and efficiently, and the important functions it fulfills inside the engine. Observing the oil pressure gauge is critical. As soon as there is a problem with the oil you need to be aware of it immediately and is gauge is how you know. As the name suggests a mechanical oil pressure gauge tells you the pressure the oil is operating inside the engine. It does not tell you the amount of oil inside the engine although the pressure is affected by this.

If the pressure drops oil cannot do its work. It cannot lubricate because it has reduced resistance to the forces trying to sweeping aside as the moving parts go backwards and forwards. It cannot circulate quickly enough to help cool the engine so the oil gets super hot before it is returned to the oil sump where it is called by the passage of air beneath the car. If the oil pressure gauge lamp comes on let the engine cooled down and then check the oil level. You should do this on a regular basis as part of your car maintenance routine. If you have to topple the level do it carefully you do not want to have too much oil in the engine and it is much easier to add more little by little than it is to drain oil away by opening the oil pan.

Factors that affect oil pressure include the amount of oil in the engine, the age of the oil and the oil filter and the oil pump. Whenever you change your car oil you should also change the filter to. A useful resource to learn more here is the oil pressure gauge guide website, dedicated to motor oil and other automotive subjects.
