Audi Q7 – First 7 Seater Car From Audi

The LA Auto show in 2006 saw the launch of the luxurious 7 seater crossover SUV, the Audi Q7. The latest of the Q series cars by Audi launched in 2010 is the Audi Q5 which was built on the same range of the Volkswagen group PL71 and was named Typ 4L. Though most of the SUV’s existing at that time was meant for adventure sports, the Audi Q7 was designed to be more of an everyday driving vehicle.

The AudiQ7 had all the basic amenities available in most SUV’s like the Air suspension to adjust the height of the vehicle as per the occupant’s requirement as well as 4 wheel driving with centralized differential locks. Audi had taken a lot of care to ensure the safety of the passengers. In spite of this, it could get only a 4 star rating out of five in the crash test conducted by Euro NCAP which assesses the levels of protection offered for the vehicle occupants. This after the Audi had an ESP (Electronic Stability Program) & multiple airbags with safety electronics. Audi came back saying this was a design error and that the defects have been rectified in the later batch of manufactured cars which helped in its rating going up to 5 stars.

Though a little overpriced, it is the best luxury car with many features to offer like the fully furnished interiors and the quality of materials used as also the looks which are worth paying for. It may not be the best in terms of fuel efficiency as it gives only around 14-19 miles per gallon. This feature has been taken care of in the Turbo diesel version which gives an average of 17-25 miles per gallon. The only hitch being, the diesel version is at least $4k more highly priced than the other versions. The best feature to look out is the updated version of MMI (Multimedia Interface).
